Press Releases have gained quite a bit of favor by Site Owners, Webmasters and Search Engines alike. The process includes a prescreening after submittal. Reputable firms like PRWeb have journalists that review your Press Release for Quality, retaining the right to refuse any they deem are inappropriate or poorly written.

Press Releases can generate a great number of "Generic Incoming Links" from high ranking and authoritive Sites. The on-line Press Release Agencies are tied into hundreds of thousands of media and journalist outlets. Press Release exposure can also lead to other media coverage, including newspapers, magazines or television.

Search Engines prefer Press Releases because:

1) They are usually prescreened by agency journalists and/or are written by professional journalists
2) Contain a low incidence of Spam content
3) The material is as fresh as it comes and the SEs love "fresh" content
4) They usually represent a source of quality high interest material
5) Press Releases are in high demand by the public

Authoring and releasing well written articles into on-line Article Syndication Sites are also a great way to generate a number of quality incoming links from high ranking relative Sites within your area of interest. An article written in good journalist style, with an authoritive presentation and on an interesting high demand topic, will usually get picked up by many on-line sources, and again have the potential to garnish other media attention.

Forum Participation

Many Forum participants think that their involvement in forums allowing signature links provide a number of generic BLs. Unfortunately they don't understand that the SEs seem to relegate all links from a Single top domain to a value of around 1 link total. Those forum users tend to post very little of substance and are quite disruptive with many one or two line "drive-by-shooting" type posts.

Most visitor generation value from forums comes from another viewer or participant perceiving something of interest, due to the content of the post made. Selected signature links are "direct links from another site" and generally provide very few if any indexed generic BLs.

Having said that though, it's not a bad way to send the Search Engines to index a new Site, but there are better ways to do that too.

Blogs

For a while Blogs were all the rage. Then Blog Spam rocketed out of control. The SEs started working together to combat Blog Spam. Bloggers now have a number of tools to fight BlogSpam. Many Blog Owners have been forced by the SEs to take up comment Spam fighting measures for survival.

Blogging takes quite a bit of effort and has it's special place in the market. For the most part it's not practical to let other members post without manual and/or software moderation. Certain kinds of Sites and purposes are better served by Blogging.

For example, it may not be in the best interest of a "Heavy Industry" Site to allocate the effort involved for the return. In our opinion blogging is probably best left to more general and popular topics.
